Mixing / Recording
Mixing is the most important part of the studio process. Having worked with some of the best artists in the world, I can incorporate the sound of some of your favorite songs into your recordings.
What does mixing involve?
Mixing involves making all the individual tracks within your song come together. I will use my 18 years of experience to balance your tracks, EQ your sounds and add effects where I think they should be added and if needed I will edit, correct and tune your files to make sure they sound as good as they can be. Almost every project is different, and I will advise you with what I think is needed. I will keep in constant contact with you to allow you creative input all the way through the process. Any revisions to your mix are included in the price I quote and we keep going until you are perfectly happy with the result. You can contact me now to get your tracks sounding like your favorite artists
Stem Mixing
Stem Mixing is when you have done some mixing yourself and you are happy with your work but feel that it just needs my assistance to enhance you project before Mastering. You will give me grouped tracks of Drums, Bass, Instruments and Vocals for example and I will mix them to the final Stereo Master. I do not have as much flexibility as with full multi-track Mixing but it is an ideal way for many artists to get their work Professionally Mixed.
How does it work?
I work on an unattended basis at my private studio or with the artist at any studio in the world or their choosing - You simply upload or post the audio files, and once mixed, I send you .WAV(s) to listen to - If required, I can also make revisions. The files are kept on my system for 3 weeks, after which I then send the files back to you for your own archieve purposes.
Turnaround is usually within 7-10 days, although a faster turnaround is available upon request
Recording
If you want me to record your band, vocals, or track overdubs, I have access to some of London's top studios at significant discount rates, including the Miloco Group and Strongroom Studios. I can help produce, plan and advise you on your project, so you come away with quality, professional results.
Mastering
Do you want your mixes to have that final touch of class? I can help your songs achieve that 'radio sound' with a CD quality finish.
I can provide Red Book Standard CD and DDPi images upon request
What Is Mastering?
Mastering is the final stage in the recording process allowing you to make adjustments to your work before its released. It gives your tracks the chance to compete with other artists and make sure its presentable in the format you choose. I will make sure your tracks sound the best they can be.
Using over 18 years of experience, I will be using time honored techniques and practices with some of the best software available including Pro Tools HD, Brainworx, TC Electronics & Waves plugins. Additionally, analogue hardware from manufactures such as API and Thermionic Culture will give your tracks that extra warmth that is so often missing from exclusively digital mixes.
I will ensure that your individual tracks are presented as one project. Using EQ, Compression, Limiting, Phase Correction and Balance to achieve Depth and Clarity for the best sounding results. Nearly every track you hear is mastered in some form.
What else is included?
Should you require any revisions to your work they are done free of charge, also included in the cost is a Red Book Standard CD that would be needed if you were to manufacture a CD for sale. PQ and ISRC Information can be added and a Listening Copy is provided for you check before the Red Book CD is made. If your files are for digital release I will upload them and links will be sent to you directly for you to access them.
Turnaround is usually within 3-5 days, although a faster turnaround is available upon request

About
Bio
What sets Kevin apart is his unique musicality, his understanding of new recording techniques and tools and his deep rooted knowledge, vocabulary and passion for traditional, high-quality, “old-school” sound engineering – all this makes him a rare hybrid that excels in any situation and will take projects to the next level while respecting the artist and his work.
Kevin is quick, adaptive and emphatic and can work with the most challenging of deadlines and the most demanding of artists.
"Music is my love and passion“ states Kevin Paul. At the age of 13 he became obsessed with electro and hip-hop culture within the underground graffiti community in mid-80’s England. He was one of London’s original graffiti artists and witnessed its transformation from anti-establishment to mainstream culture. It was within this culture that he decided to have a career in art and music.
At 18 he fell in love with 'house' music, which was another inspiration, expanded his DJ-skills and continued to hone his craft as a musician and artist.
As DJ „Heavy Kev“, he then discovered sound engineering and immediately knew this to be his true calling. He obtained a list of recording studios from APRS and called them all until he got to the letter „S“.
In 1991, “the numerous rejections and interviews paid off”, when he got a job at Soho Studios in London. He used this position to develop a profound understanding of equipment and techniques. Six months later, he got a job at Konk Studios.
At Konk, he worked alongside a bevy of successful producers and engineers such as Bob Clearmountain, Adam Mosley, Pascal Gabriel and Gil Norton, as well as bands such as The Kinks, Galliano, Terrorvision, UFO and Elastica.
After working on archiving the Depeche Mode back catalogue in 1994, he was offered an engineering role at Mute Records’ in-house studio, which eventually lead to a position as Head Engineer, where his varied talents as a mixer, recording engineer and programmer gave him access to the entire Mute Records roster.
Highlights included mixing Goldfrapp’s „Felt Mountain“ (Mute, 2000, gold in UK, Mercury Prize in 2001), which was included in Robert Dimery’s book „1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die“ in 2006, and ranked at No. 16 on The Times 2009 list of 100 best pop albums of the 2000’s.
Others include David Bowie’s „Hours“ (2001 – Bowie’s 21st studio album) and Nick Cave’s „No More Shall We Part“, his 11th studio album in the same year, along with mixing for British indie labels MoWax, who were at the forefront of trip-hop and alternative rap and Cup Of Tea Records, fusing jungle to hip-hop, and jazz funk to dub.
Mute’s DVD interests made him move into 5:1 Surround Productions. His initial assignments included mixing Moby’s „Hotel“, Goldfrapp’s „Black Cherry“ and many more.
In 2004 Kevin went freelance and re-mixed the entire Depeche Mode and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds back catalogues for SACD/DVD.
Since 2008, Kevin Paul has been in charge of mixing and remixing the exclusive performances at the coveted iTunes Festival UK and Germany events. He has mixed over 100 artists to date, including: Adele, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The XX, Calvin Harris, Foo Fighters, Jack White, Linkin Park, Florence & The Machine, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Jessie J., Norah Jones, Oasis, Mumford & Sons, N.E.R.D., Lykke Li, James Blunt, KT Tunstall, Hot Chip, Paul Weller and many more.
He continues to record, engineer, produce and mix many projects in music and film, runs the mixing and surround mixing modules for the Masters Degree course at UK’s Westminster University and divides his time between London and Berlin. Recent works include the International selling new album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and mixing the latest album of Denmark’s “Dúné” with the first single premiering at the Danish Music Awards as well as recording and mixing the latest incarnation of the iTunes Music Festival.
He has two studios he works out of mostly but is also available to record on location.

FAQ
When can you get started on my songs?
The first thing you should do is to contact me. I like to discuss your project and get an exact understanding of what you want.
What format do you need my audio in?
All audio needs to be in the following formats:
- 16 or 24 bit

Yes! You can provide me with a list of references for how you want your track to sound. For example:

The more information I have, the better.
What happens next?
